The Virtual World Comes to Commercial Cards

For the past several decades, when payment cards were mentioned the image of a piece of plastic with rounded edges came immediately to mind. However, recent developments in both the commercial and retail card areas are resulting in the disappearance of the little piece of plastic. Sarah Williams looks at how virtual cards are being used by the commercial payments industry.
‘Virtual’ is a term and state that is increasingly utilized for many different applications and this trend has definitely reached the world of commercial payments cards. Virtual cards simply refer to payment methods that work in the same way as traditional payment cards but without the physical plastic card.
