UATP offers prepaid vouchers
Article in Travel Weekly
Universal Air Travel Plan (UATP) partnered with Paysafecard to offer Cash-Ticket, a prepaid voucher that consumers can use to purchase flights online.
In its initial iteration, the deal provides access to the Cash-Ticket vouchers at many outlets in Europe, UATP said. The voucher or set of vouchers will come with a 16-digit PIN code to be used when making online purchases.
When buying vouchers, the consumer pays a one-off fee of two euros, regardless of how much credit is purchased.
The arrangement enables airlines to process Cash-Ticket transactions via existing airline UATP connections.
To date, UATP has traditionally been used as a form of payment for corporate travel. Cash-Ticket takes UATP into the consumer arena.
Paysafecard CEO Michael Mueller said the deal allows airlines that work with UATP "to accept real online cash payments from a new group of customers."
Mueller said Paysafecard has found that online cash payment enables websites to reach people who haven’t previously made purchases online.
UATP President Ralph Kaiser, said, "There is a steady trend toward debit-based payments and cash transactions. ...The partnership allows speed to market for Cash-Ticket through existing UATP connections and offers the airlines lower distribution costs."
Paysafecard operates in 20 countries and has offices in London, Vienna and Bern.
